The Centre for Rapid Evidence Synthesis (ACRES) is a Center of Excellence that promotes innovative strategies for evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) at the College of Health Sciences, Makerere University. Building off of work that began in 2010, the center aims to support policy and decision-making processes with high- quality and timely evidence.

Under its flagship rapid response service, the first known in any low and middle-income country and now modelled in over 15 countries globally, ACRES engages with policy processes at all levels of governance, and supports them in using evidence to inform timely policies and decision-making processes.

ACRES also has strong relationships with various EIDM practitioners, policymakers, and funders, and has contributed to the growth and capacity development of different networks and collaborations.

Under the PEERSS partnership, ACRES uses different mechanisms (e.g., rapid response service, policy dialogues, citizen panels) to support policy processes in the non-health sector.

    Past PEERS activities include:

Providing decision-making support to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MoGLSD), and the Office of the President.

    Moving forward, ACRES plans to:

Continue to build capacity and embed EIDM across different ecosystems, such as exploring different ways of empowering Uganda’s youth to use evidence for policy and decision-making.

Use lessons learned in the health sector to inform future EIDM interventions in other sectors (e.g., education).
