The Knowledge to Policy (K2P) Center  is a research center based at the American University of Beirut that aims to strengthen public policy and practice and improve health and social outcomes in Lebanon, the Eastern Mediterranean Region, and globally. It is designated as a WHO-Collaborating Center for evidence-informed policymaking and practice.

Founded in 2015, the K2P Center works to bridge the gap between science, policy, and politics, make research more accessible to a broader range of stakeholders, build institutional capacities for evidence-informed policymaking, and seize opportunities to advocate for and influence policy outcomes. Its key objectives are to:

  • Support and build the Knowledge Translation (KT) capacity of research networks, civil society organizations, researchers, policymakers, and the media.
  • Inform the production, packaging and sharing of evidence from research in an objective manner, based on current and emerging policymaking priorities;
  • Inform policymaking in an objective manner using the best available evidence available.
  • Develop and test models for KT that are culturally appropriate, relevant, and effective for a given context

The K2P Center has been strategically selected as a lead mentor institute for developing the sustainable institutional capacity for evidence-informed decision-making in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Through this program of work, the K2P Center is developing the capacity of over ten mentee institutions, from all six WHO regions.

Established in 2015 at the American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon.

K2P is a knowledge translation platform that bridges the gap between research and policymaking and promotes evidence-informed policymaking and action.

The center shapes and impacts policies by providing context-specific solutions to complex policy issues, convening high profile dialogues and engaging in capacity-building.

Designated as a WHO Collaborating Center for Evidence-Informed Policy and Practice.

Recognized as a global mentor institute for ‘evidence to policy’ work.

The functions of the Knowledge to Policy Center summarized in an infographic.

Since joining PEERSS in 2018, the K2P Center has made a number of contributions to the evidence-informed policymaking space.

      With PEERSS funding and support:

The K2P Center launched the K2P COVID-19 Series Initiative in 2020 to inform the global response to COVID-19. The initiative harnesses the best available research evidence and data on the pandemic and makes it available to politicians, policymakers, and other stakeholders to help shape the collective response needed to mitigate the COVID-19 outbreak.

As a PEERSS Synergy Support Team member, the K2P Center:

Provides partner teams with support to help strengthen their capacities in the evidence-informed policymaking space.

Helps teams develop an approach to produce rapid syntheses and evidence briefs, reviewing products once drafted.

Provides ongoing support on the operational aspects of convening stakeholder panels and dialogues.

Contributes to the design and implementation of Quarterly Learning Sessions (QLS) for all PEERSS Partners.

Provides technical and administrative support to the China team at Lanzhou University to help them achieve their objectives and goals.
