Partner team overview

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is an autonomous federal government office that is accountable to the Federal Minister of Health.
The institute:
- Undertakes research, based on the national public health research agenda on priority health and nutrition problems, and generates and disseminates scientific and technological knowledge to improve the health of the general public.
- Conducts surveillance for the early identification and detection of public health risks, dispatches timely information during public health emergencies, and ensures the rapid recovery of affected populations after times of crises.
- Uses trained human power and technology to undertake problem solving research and provide effective responses to public health emergencies, carries out referral diagnostic and
- analytical tests, and supports the capacity building of health and food science laboratories at the national level.

In 2019, the first in-person PEERSS partnership workshop was held in Addis Ababa and allowed teams to engage in shared learning, collaborative dialogue, and knowledge exchange, as well as develop a tactical action plan for strengthening the partnership.
With PEERSS funding and support:
EPHI, through the Knowledge Translation directorate, has been working to support evidence-informed policymaking related to COVID-19 by:
Launching an evidence alert service that targets key stakeholders involved in the COVID-19 response
Producing rapid evidence briefs, evidence summaries, and issue briefs to provide policymakers with insight on how to respond to the pandemic.
Moving forward, EPHI will continue to implement activities, including:
Holding trainings on rapid response services and sensitization workshops for knowledge producers and promoters of knowledge use.
Expanding the evidence alert service to include non COVID-19 health issues and social system problems.
Holding evidence-informed stakeholder dialogues and citizen panels.
