The Center for the Development of Best Practices in Health (CDBPS-H) is a research unit created in 2008 that works to promote evidence-informed decision-making.

CDBPS-H helps researchers collect, synthesize, reformat, and communicate research evidence in an attractive and readable fashion for decision-makers. The CDBPS-H also aims to serve decision-makers by providing capacity building opportunities, producing summaries of evidence, and identifying gaps for informed decision-making.

With PEERSS funding and support, CDBPS-H has been able to mobilize a multidisciplinary team to better promote evidence-informed decision-making in matters related to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Some of the activities that the center has carried out include:

Preparing a deliberative dialogue on the Inclusive Data Charter and a capacity strengthening workshop for the National Forum of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for the SDGs.

Developing a collaboration agreement with United Cameroon Cities and Councils (Communes et Villes Unies du Cameroun), a national association of municipal councils to promote evidence-informed decision-making in matters related to achieving the SDGs. This effort resulted in the organization of two capacity building workshops to establish a platform on sustainable urban mobility in fifteen municipalities.

Preparing an evidence brief for policy on local governance for sustainable nutrition  in collaboration with the Cameroon country office of the Helen Keller International Foundation to boost the engagement of municipal authorities against malnutrition.

Some of the activities that CDBPS-H will implement in the future include:

Establishing an institutional mechanism to boost evidence-informed decision-making within the municipal councils nationwide in matters related to poverty, nutrition, health, inequalities, decent work, and sustainable cities.

Strengthening the capacity of the Cameroonian coalition of civil society and media organizations to promote evidence-informed decision-making and research.

Fostering the production and utilization of inclusive developmental data to support localizing SDGs through municipal observatories of sustainable local development.

LES BONNES PRATIQUES DE GESTION DES DECHETS PAR LES MUNICIPALITES DE LA VILLE DE YAOUNDE

The increasing and uncontrolled urbanization of Cameroonian cities in general and that of Yaoundé in particular, has led to an exponential growth of urban populations. The growth of the urban population in Yaoundé, coupled with changing lifestyles and consumption habits automatically increases municipal waste generation by 5% each year (Almeida et al., 2016). This article presents, on the one hand, the problems of hygiene and insalubrities that plague the city of Yaoundé and, on the other hand, sheds light on some good practices that work by adapting them to the local context of the municipalities in the city of Yaoundé.

    L’EGALITE ET L’INCLUSION AU CAMEROUN

One of the key humanitarian issues covered by the Sustainable Development Goals is "gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls," SDG5. In Africa, although gender inequalities have been reduced in recent years, women continue to suffer discrimination. In Cameroon, the situation of women and girls is not good. This article presents the thorny issue of equality and inclusion and sheds light on interventions that work by adapting them to the local context of Cameroonian municipalities.
